Chinese-born U.S. Nobel Prize-winner weds

SHANTOU, China, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Nobel Prize-winning physicist, 82-year-old Chen Ning Yang, has married Weng Fan, a 28-year-old graduate student in China, it was reported Saturday.
Born in Hefei, Chian, in 1922, Yang shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with Tsung Dao Lee in 1957 for their joint work at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princton, N.J. in upsetting the principle of conservation of parity as a fundamental law of nuclear physics.

Weng is working toward a master's degree in translation at the Guangzhou University of Foreign Studies.

Yang's former wife, Du Zhili, died in October 2003 and two months later, Yang left the United States and moved to Tsinghua University in Beijing, Xinhua, China's main government-run news agency, reported Saturday.

Yang and Weng met in 1995 when Yang and his former wife attended an international physics conference in Shantou and the college freshman was assigned to assist the couple.
